Top 5 Tribal Myr Commanders in MTG Magic: the Gathering

Myr tribal decks can be a lot of fun in Commander, combining the unique synergy of Myr creatures with powerful artifacts and support cards. Whether you're looking for tribal Myr commanders, or just a commander card that benefits your 99 being packed with Myr, you've come to the right place!

Let's take a look at the top five commanders for a Myr tribal deck, along with what makes them stand out and some synergistic cards and combos.

Pin these images to share and easily revisit this post later!

1. Urtet, Remnant of Memnarch

If you want your commander to fit the Myr tribe, Urtet is your only option. He's the only legendary Myr out there. While we've got several others listed below that have fantastic synergy, and a shapeshifter that can count as a Myr, Urtet is the only true Myr of the bunch. And the best part, this Remnant of Memnarch gives you access to all 5 colors with his color identity!

Cast a Myr spell, get a bonus 1/1 Myr token. All Myr untap at the beginning of your combat step, so whatever shenanigans you had them pulling off during your main phase, they can still charge your enemies.

Urtet's last ability, if you can get all 5 colors of mana out to pull off, is an insane pump of +3+3 permanently to all Myr you control. This includes Urtet, any Myr you've cast, any Myr tokens you've created, a permanent +3+3 kaboom for them all. And you can do this every time you can tap Urtet with enough free mana.

High Synergy Creatures with Urtet, Remnant of Memnarch as Your Myr Commander:

I'm going to include a bunch of cards here. Normally I try to limit these sections to 3 to 5, but, Myr tribal creatures have a lot to offer a 5 colored deck with all the mana producers at their disposal!

  • The Myr mana rocks/ramp creatures (Gold Myr, Silver Myr, Iron Myr, Copper Myr, Leaden Myr, Palladium Myr, Alloy Myr)
MTG Gold Myr card
MTG Silver Myr card
MTG Iron Myr card
MTG Copper Myr card
MTG Leaden Myr card
MTG Alloy Myr card
MTG Palladium Myr card

Then there are all the other great Myr creatures out there waiting to help you unleash an army of Mousers on the Teenage Mutan Ninja Turtles.

  • Myr Battlesphere
  • Myr Galvanizer

  • Shimmer Myr
  • Myrsmith

High Synergy Spells for Urtet, Remnant of Memnarch:

You'll notice most spells that synergize with a Myr tribal deck do one of three things; they have some sort of affinity for artifacts, they create mana based on artifacts, or they pump out Myr tokens. You're usually trying to create a mass Myr army and/or a ton of mana.

  • Mirrodin Besieged
  • Organic Extinction
  • Elven Chorus

Artifacts and Land with Synergy for Urtet, Remnant of Memnarch:

We're going all the way back to the Mirrodin block for some of these cards, including Myr Matrix from Darksteel. We're definitely sticking with the mass army of Myr theme here too. Also, any artifact lands are stars in this deck.

  • Myr Turbine
  • Unwinding Clock
  • Myr Matrix

Combos for Urtet, Remnant of Memnarch Commander Decks:

  • Myr Galvanizer + Clock of Omens + either Palladium Myr or any 2 of the single mana producing Myr (Silver Myr, Gold Myr, etc…,) + at least 2 other Myr creatures or tokens
    • You'll need 2 Myr to use Clock of Omens, you'll need 1 that produces mana to activate Galvanizer, and then if you have another one that produces mana (or Palladium creating 2 colorless mana with each tap,) this combo can create an infinite mana loop!

  • Myr Welder + Staff of Domination + Palladium Myr
    • To pull off this combo you'll need to get Staff of Domination and Palladium Myr into your graveyard, and have Myr Welder in play.
    • You'll need Myr Welder to have an opportunity to imprint both the Staff and Palladium Myr
    • Once both are imprinted you can tap the Welder for 2 mana, then use the 1 mana untap ability, creating an infinite mana loop.
    • Once you have have infinite mana and the ability to untap the welder repeatedly, you can also use the other staff abilities infinitely, such as infinite life gain, or drawing infinite cards!

  • Myr Turbine + Clock of Omens + Doubling Season
    • Tap the Turbine to create a Myr token.
    • Double the token due to Doubling Season.
    • Tap the 2 new tokens for Clock of Omens, using it to untap the Turbine.
    • With all three of these cards on the field you can create an infinite army of tapped Myr tokens! And a pair of untapped Myr if you wish.

2. Brudiclad, Telchor Engineer

Brudiclad is an Artificer, not a Myr, but this dude will create a 2/1 Myr token each of your combat steps, and allow you to change all of your tokens into whatever your best token is!

The color identity of this card will limit your deck to Red/Blue, and the commander isn't part of the tribe, but these are some excellent commander abilities for trying to pump out an army of Myr!

MTG Brudiclad, Telchor Engineer tribal Myr commander card

High Synergy Creatures with Brudiclad, Telchor Engineer as your Myr Commander:

Of course several of the mana producing Myr belong here, so I won't list them individually again. The only real newcomer to this list if Myr Retriever. That graveyard recursion can be invaluable with Brudiclad.

  • Myr Galvanizer
  • Myr Retriever
  • Myr Battlesphere

High Synergy Spells for Brudiclad, Telchor Engineer:

Reflections will let you double-cast your Myr spells. Mechanized production is a fantastic artifact copier, with the ability to win the game by alternate win condition. Getting 8 or more Myr tokens with the same name in play may be easier than keeping this enchantment on the field long enough to win with it though.

  • Mirrodin Besieged
  • Reflections of Littjara
  • Mechanized Production

Artifacts and Land with Synergy for Brudiclad, Telchor Engineer:

Artifact lands that fit your color scheme are again a welcome addition. Myr Matrix is a carry over from Urtet, but now we'll throw in Genesis Chamber and Darksteel Forge.

  • Myr Matrix
  • Genesis Chamber
  • Darksteel Forge

Combos for a Brudiclad, Telchor Engineer Deck:

  • Brudiclad, Telchor Engineer + Combat Celebrant + Cackling Counterpart

If you have Brudiclad and the Celebrant on the battlefield and Counterpart in your hand with 2 blue and a colorless you can pull off this combo.

Cast the Counterpart and make a token of the Celebrant. When Brudiclad's trigger goes off at your combat phase, choose to have all tokens become Celebrant tokens. Declare one of the Celebrant tokens as an attacker, and Exert it. The Celebrant copy's trigger will then give you another combat phase.

Repeat the Brudiclad trigger at the next combat by creating another Myr token, and then having it become another Celebrant copy, rinse, repeat.

This combo will give you infinite combat steps and damage.

  • Brudiclad, Telchor Engineer + Combat Celebrant + Quasiduplicate

This is the same combo as above, just swap out the Counterpart for Quasiduplicate.

  • Brass's Bounty + Mechanized Production + 8 Land

When you have at least 8 land and in play Mechanized Production is on the battlefield you're ready to start this combo.

Cast Brass's Bounty creating at least 8 treasure tokens.

Next upkeep Mech's will win you the game.

3. Morophon the Boundless

Morophon, the Boundless is an excellent choice to lead a Myr deck for several reasons. The biggest of which is that as a Changeling it counts as a Myr so it fits the tribe and provides benefits!

Morophon's ability to reduce mana costs won't matter too much for Myr, as most don't use colored mana to cast, but it does make his color identity all 5 colors giving you access to all 5 in your 99.

Morophon has the added bonus of being an anthem for all others of the creature tribe you declare as he's cast, giving them +1+1. I'm sure we'll be pumping our Myr!

MTG Morophon, the Boundless card

High Synergy Creatures with Morophon the Boundless as Your Myr Commander:

This list will look familiar, especially the top card which can also be a tribal Myr commander. Also, all of the mana producing Myr should be in this deck too.

  • Urtet, Remnant of Memnarch
  • Myr Galvanizer
  • Myr Battlesphere

High Synergy Spells for Morophon the Boundless:

Mirrodin Besieged and Organic Extinction are fun in any Myr deck running those colors. Thoughtcast has been a staple in almost all artifact decks since Mirrodin.

  • Mirrodin Besieged
  • Organic Extinction
  • Thoughtcast

Honorable mention for planeswalker Tezzeret, Master of the Bridge. This dude will make all of your creature and planeswalker cards have affinity for artifacts, and his +2 ability deals X damage to EACH opponent equal to the number of artifacts you control, while gaining you the same X life.

MTG Tezzeret, Master of the Bridge card

Artifacts and Land with Synergy for Morophon the Boundless:

Turbine and Matrix are back on the list, but we also have a newcomer, Lux Artillery. This card gives you a way to pump each Myr you cast through sunburst, and an interesting damage dealing ability to build up to that hits each opponent for a quarter of their life each time you reach your turn's end step.

  • Lux Artillery
  • Myr Turbine
  • Myr Matrix

Combos for Morophon the Boundless:

  • Maskwood Nexus (or Arcane Adaptation) + The World Tree

Either Maskwood Nexus or Arcane Adaptation can be used to make all of your creatures in play, and yet to be played, Gods. Doing so and then using the 3rd ability on The World Tree will allow you to search your library for every creature it contains and play them immediately for no further cost.

4. Urza, Lord High Artificer

**Mono Color Magic Alert!** Urza, Lord High Artificer is on our list of top mono blue commanders.

Urza can pilot just about any artifact deck, including Myr tribal. While probably not the ideal choice since he's not a Myr himself (or even an artifact,) he still has an awesome amount of synergy with Myr cards and what Myr are trying to do.

Urza will limit you to only the colorless and blue Myr, but he'll make up for it with mana production, card advantage, and what will most likely be a beefy token when he comes into play. Another benefit of playing Urza as your tribal Myr deck's commander is that the rest of the table will not expect you to focus on Myr, with all of the other more popular builds Urza headlines.

MTG Urza, Lord High Artificer card

High Synergy Creatures with Urza, Lord High Artificer as your Myr Commander:

It's interesting that EDHREC lists all Myr decks with Urza as their commander are running Plague Myr. Infect is an extremely powerful ability, but not usually what Myr are built around.

  • Myr Battlesphere
  • Myr Galvanizer
  • Plague Myr

High Synergy Spells for Urza, Lord High Artificer:

Another appearance by Mirrodin Besieged, but Fabricate and Distant Melody are new to this list! Tutoring for an artifact could certainly come in handy here.

  • Mirrodin Besieged
  • Fabricate
  • Distant Melody

Artifacts and Land with Synergy for Urza, Lord High Artificer

Artifact lands will again come in handy here. At least any that produce colorless and blue mana. Then there's the top Myr artifacts and the Forge.

  • Myr Turbine
  • Mystic Forge
  • Myr Matrix

Combos for Urza, Lord High Artificer:

Dramatic Reversal + Isochron Scepter

A classic combo at this point. If your non-land mana producers can produce 3 or more colorless you can pop this off for infinite colorless mana, storm triggers, etc.

Hullbreaker Horror + Sol Ring

Every self respecting commander deck is running Sol Ring these days anyway. May as well create infinite colorless mana or storm triggers from it.

Rings of Brighthearth + Basalt Monolith

This is a pretty easy-to-pull-off mana rock + utility artifact combo that can grant infinite colorless mana. What you do with it is up to you!

5. Saheeli, the Gifted

It's always a different feeling when your Commander is a planeswalker. Saheeli will give you access to both red and blue, and her second and third abilities have fantastic synergy with tribal Myr.

MTG Saheeli, the Gifted card

High Synergy Creatures with Saheeli, the Gifted as Your Myr Commander:

A couple other token producers make this list, and then of course Brudiclad that shares Saheeli's color identity.

  • Sharding Sphinx
  • Sai, Master Thopterist
  • Brudiclad, Telchor Engineer

High Synergy Spells for Saheeli, the Gifted:

A little more typical blue list here with some counter and clone magic.

  • Access Denied
  • Rite of Replication
  • Spell Swindle

Artifacts and Land with Synergy for Saheeli, the Gifted:

Skullclamp can go in anything with 1/1 creatures. Mimic Vat's interesting imprint ability plust Saheeli's copy ability could result in multiple copies of something fun with haste. Inventor's fair is a fantastic land for an artifact based deck.

  • Mimic Vat
  • Skullclamp
  • Inventor's Fair

Combos for Saheeli, the Gifted:

Mycosynth Lattice + Vandalblast

If you have the Lattice out and overload Vandalblast you'll destroy all permanents that you don't control.

Hope you found your next tribal Myr commander! Myr are clearly one of the top tribes in commander. But if not, you may try something a little out of the box off our top colorless commanders list.

Magic player since Revised in 94. Still remember opening boosters of Revised, the Dark, and Arabian Nights as a kid. Watching it be a big deal (and then let down) when Fallen Empires dropped. Then Magic got it right again and really took off. While the current state of Wizards is debatable, I still enjoy playing with friends and my kids. I don't do tournaments much these days but I've played Draft, Sealed, Standard, Extended (not a thing anymore,) Pre-Release, Grand Prix, States Qualifiers, and Teams tournaments. Though I'm not a judge, I'm the one the friends turn to when there's a rules question, and if I don't know it, I find it. Please, ask me anything, comment on posts, and share Magic with your friends and family!
